Milford Township

Founded on April 17, 1832, from Upper Smithfield Township. John Biddis laid out the village in 1796. Some say it was named for Milford Haven in Wales where William Biddis (father of John) was born. Others say the Wells’ Mill and the spot where the Delaware was forded resulted in the name Mill-Ford.

Historical Locations Worth Visiting

  • The area which follows the west side of the Sawkill Creek on Raymonndskill Road (State Rt. 2001) just outside of Milford and accessed by two bridges consists of many late 19th century vernacular houses. While each slihtly differen these houses are unified by "two-over-two" windows throughout, as well as Victorian porches and gables. All of these buildings retain a high level of integrity and contribute to the historic value of this area.
